    ANDREA TOSCANI, Tenor    
(Monticelli d'Ongina, July 23rd 1885 - Milán, March 10th 1947)

 

He began to study in the School of his native city, and after he goes to the Musical Liceo of Florence where he had obtained a gratuitous position.

He moved then to Milán to be perfected with Tullio Serafin. Around the 30 years it began with 'Otello in the Theater Carcano of Milán, giving beginning to a brief but brilliant career. 

He sang again the Verdi's Opera in the Theater Adriano of Rome and in 1915 goes to the Politeama Genovés with the Trovatore, repeated in the Opera of Rome in 1917, year in that he also sang it in the Politeama of Piacenza. 

In 1918 goes to the Maximum Theater of Palermo (La Baronessa di Carini of Giuseppe Mulè and also I Pagliacci), in the Argentina of Rome (Aida), in the Politeama Genovés (I Pagliacci) . 

With their wife, Rina Gallo, as mezzosoprano, in 1920 went to Spain, where he sang in Madrid (Real Theater, 2 recitals of the Trovatore), Valencia, Barcelona. Immediately then went to the Comunale of Bologna with Otello, that he repeated in the carnival during 11 nights in the Petruzzelli of Bari. 

In the Royal Theater of Torino, in the carnival 1920-21, during one representation of Tannhaüser, it began with the calvary that continued with a series of operations in the throat that they put end to what could have been a great career.
